Day Zero Water Crisis
(Middle School)

Topic Summary

Day Zero is the term used to refer to the complete shortage of water in a city. Day Zero was predicted to happen at the beginning of 2018 at Cape Town, South Africa. Luckily, the government solved this catastrophe, but not for much time. South Africa is not the only country facing this conflict but also several European, Asian and African territories are starting to be victims of this catastrophe.

Around the world, 1.1 billion people lack access to water, a resource necessary for human life. In 1900, the world had an average of 600 billion m3 of water consumption. Due to demand, this has risen up to 5000 billion m3 of water consumption.

The delegates task is to find a way to solve the water issues and prevent Day Zero to occur in Cape Town and in any other city in the world.
